If you have a pre-schooler in the house then it’s more than likely that you are familiar with Bluey, the adorable and highly energetic six-year-old Brisbane blue heeler who makes sure that every day is an adventure! Bluey is a phenomenon ….
Made in Brisbane by Ludo Studio and written by Joe Brumm, known for his work on Charlie and Lola, the 7-minute-long cartoon first appeared on ABC Kids in October 2018 and this loveable dog has been a huge success ever since.
It’s easy to see why this character is so appealing to young people and Bluey has taken the coveted position of being the most watched program ever on ABC iView, with over 90 million plays and has also topped the Australian iTunes Kids Chart with the series peaking at #1 and consistently remaining in the Top 5.
If you have a Bluey fan in the house then we have some exciting news – this month has seen two Bluey board books Bluey: The Beach and Bluey: Fruit Bat along with a sticker book Bluey: Time to Play. The books are already flying off the shelves and dominating the Nielsen Weekly Top 10 bestseller lists for kids.
The aim of the books is to use the narrative format to highlight and explore key moments from the show while keeping the humour and energy of the TV show and we have taken a look at them and the books are lots of fun. They not only telling a story but engaging little readers in activities along the way.
Bluey, The Beach– A lift-the-flap book: Bluey, Bingo, Mum and Dad are off to the beach. They set up the sun tent, splash in the water and catch some waves. After some splashing around mum decides to take a walk by herself (I’m sure many of us can relate to that) but Bluey doesn’t understand why. While she’s gone, they find shells, bury each other in the sand, run, skip and cartwheel. Little readers can lift the flap to find crabs, pipis and jelly fish or pretend to be a Mermaid with Bluey. There’s also a great message in there about independence and being brave.
Bluey the Fruit Bat– A glow-in-the-dark book: Who doesn’t love a glow-in-the-dark book? Put that together with Bluey and it’s easy to see that Bluey: Fruit Batis a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
Bluey doesn’t want to go to bed – we all know about that one – and then discovers that fruit bats don’t sleep at night as they are nocturnal. Bluey wishes she was a fruit bat but maybe she can dream about being a fruit bat. The colourful pictures and relatable story is bound to appeal and you may find a little fruit bat flying around your house – hopefully tiring them out for bed!
As with the TV series, the pictures here are eye catching and the activities will keep little hands busy. We’ve heard from so many parents about their love for Bluey so you may well find yourself enjoying these board books too.
There are more titles in the works so this will just be the beginning but in the meantime get ready to read The Beach and Fruit Bat on high rotation!
