Romance fiction is sold in 34 languages on six continents, and the genre grosses more than a billion dollars a year — outselling mystery, sci-fi, and fantasy combined. And one of the premier specialty bookstores in Australia catering to that voracious market is Wollongong’s Ever After.
The packed shelves of this lovely store contain a huge range of historical, contemporary and paranormal romances as well as urban fantasy, and for the more adventurous, hot erotica titles. There is also an extensive selection of pre-loved books for the budget conscious. If you’re after a particular title, give the shop a call and they’ll see whether it’s in stock. Other Ever After specialties are products from Madman Entertainment (Anime DVDs, manga) and books for the Spanish speaking community. But first and foremost, Ever After is about love and romance. Store owner, Lucy Arbarcia, believes everyone’s reading choices should be readily available, especially those more elusive romance titles.
If you live locally, there is a group meeting for romance readers on the last Saturday of the month. It’s fun, free and gives local romance readers a sense of community. The group meetings have been an on-going event for the past 10 years with members enjoying a few hours of talking romance, eating delicious food, and forming friendships.
From time to time, Ever After plays host to author book signings. These events are very popular, and readers are notified of them via the newsletter.
Ever After is one of those delightful independent bookstores, that deserves our support. Like all great bookstores, it not only provides the titles we want, but also encourages community. If you love the romance genre, then go online and check it out. Or better still, if you’re in the vicinity, drop by. By supporting the independents, stores like Ever After will continue selling books… ever after.
