Free Children’s Event: Indigenous Literacy Day 2021

Free Children’s Event: Indigenous Literacy Day 2021

It’s time to celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day!

The event is a 25-minute pre-recorded event for children 4-11 years of age. Hosted by dynamic performer, best-selling author, musician, artist and Indigenous Literacy Foundation ambassador, Gregg Dreise, a proud descendant from the Goomeri and Yuwalayaay people in south-western Queensland and north-west of NSW.

For a touch of celebrity charm, there’ll be a special guest appearance by Australia’s favourite pop singer and ILF ambassador, Jessica Mauboy.

The event is fast-paced and fun with two story animations in Kriol and a virtual flight to the Tiwi Islands to join local children at the islands swimming hole and on a hunt for mussels in the mangroves.

Kids will delight in the fun and interactive nature of the event – from yelling out Yakai Gregg! every time they see a twirling, whirling boomerang, to singing and moving along with Gregg’s lively performance. Children will take a virtual flight to the Tiwi Islands to join local children at the island swimming hole and on a hunt for mussels in the mangroves.

What a way to celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day!

When: the event will be available On Demand from 9am, Wednesday September 1 2021.

Where: bookings can be made via ild.org.au and dart learning

This event is proudly presented by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation in collaboration with Sydney Opera House’s Creative Digital Learning team.
