The Oscars of Publishing: Australian Book Industry Awards Longlist Announced

The Australian Publishers Association has announced the 2019 longlist for the Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIA’s).

The ABIA Academy, a group of more than 250 publishers, booksellers, agents, media, and industry representatives, have selected the longlist from books published in 2018, and divided them into 12 categories.

The ABIA’s showcase the collaborative efforts and talent of publishers, editors, illustrators, marketers, designers, and authors, and acknowledge the high standard of books that these people consistently bring to both Australian and international markets.

There are many familiar titles on the list that you, our readers, will recognise – both fiction and children’s titles that we have reviewed and recommended, and that you have loved. The list showcases the vast range of incredible Australian voices and titles that we have emerged over the past year, and stands as a testament to the diversity and talent of the Australian book industry.

The shortlist will be released on Thursday the 11th of April, with the winners being announced at the publishing industry’s night of nights on Thursday the 2nd of May.
