Is anyone’s life as perfect as it looks?

Beth, Ruby and Lauren all have their perfect looking worlds. Beth is married, with a beautiful baby and runs her own wedding planning business. Ruby is a successful photo editor, with her own sense of style, living life by her own rules. And Lauren is literally living the dream: an Instagram influencer, about to marry the man of her – and many other women’s – dreams. But what they show on the outside is not always the truth. Beth hasn’t had sex in over a year. Ruby carries body shame and feels like she’s failing. And Lauren’s happiness is fake news.

These three women are connected in many ways in their lives. Beth is planning Lauren’s wedding, and although Ruby has never met Lauren, she is doing the touch-ups on her wedding photos, just to name a few. But one shocking event is about to bring them closer together than they ever though they would be. An event that will make the truth come tumbling out…

Dawn O’Porter has written a hilarious and heart-warming read in So Lucky. There are parts of each woman in the story that every woman reading will relate to. Are you ashamed of your body? Check. Are you wanting something more from a relationship? Check. Are you living a fake life on social media trying to pretend you are happy? Check. If you’ve ever thought ‘Everyone else has their life together, why am I a failure?’ then this book is for you. As you journey with these women across a few weeks of their lives, you will laugh with them (many times), cry with them, and want to reach out and hug them as they go through their life trials. What is so amazing about these women is that they are normal. You’ll see yourself, your best friend, a work colleague, a family member in these women. So, while these are fictional stories, they are very much real, every day, normal stories as well. It is truly a joyful story for every woman.

So Lucky is one of the funniest and fun books I have read in a very long time. It is a beacon of joy in a time where women are incredibly hard on themselves. At its core, it really focuses on not judging women by their covers. As each woman goes through her own journey of self-discovery, we go on one too. The book finishes with the question ‘Who are you?’ and you feel encouraged to figure out who you are, unashamedly. So Lucky is a beautiful and incredibly funny story of womanhood, one that I will be gifting to all my female friends – and maybe even a few of the male ones too.
